Every bottle in The Divided Cask Series 1 began with the same 13-year-old Linkwood single malt.
The original whisky was divided between four finishing casks — New American Oak, Cognac, Port and Oloroso Sherry — so that the influence of each cask could be experienced against the same starting point.
The differences in the glass therefore tell a genuine cask story. New American Oak brings vanilla, creamy texture and fresh orchard fruit. Cognac develops baked fruit, nuttiness and caramel. Port moves towards red fruit, richness and warming spice. Oloroso Sherry introduces darker dried fruits, polished wood, nuts, coffee and chocolate.
No one expression is intended to be the “best”. The purpose of The Divided Cask is to experience how four finishing casks can take one whisky in four different directions.
COGNAC
Baked fruit, caramel and nuttiness
Nose: baked apple, orchard fruit, toasted almond, hazelnut and caramel
Palate: honey sweetness, orchard fruit, nuttiness, spice and pepper
